Day 4 & 5 Driving to the East Coast

Day 4
Nashville, TN to Roanoke, VA

We drove around downtown Nashville for a bit where it was still hot and humid. Getting into Virginia and the mountains was a breathe of fresh air. We were getting more and more excited as our destination grew closer!
By this point, Taryn found out that the sound of her yell was pretty awesome with the slight echo in the truck. My ears are still ringing. Besides that, she was wonderful for the entire drive!

Day 5
Arrival to Crystal City

Our timing of getting into the city was a bit hectic as Taryn had just woken up from a nap, it was lunch time, our food was in the back of the truck and we were trying to navigate VA/ D.C. freeways. (Thank goodness for our Garmin GPS!) When we arrived, our little landlord came out with the biggest smile on her face, waving to us. I had a huge sense of relief flush over me. Getting to this point was hard. I mean, finding housing that is.

We searched all summer long, joined a great listserv, called a gazillion apartment complexes and spent hours and hours searching online for a place. It's a very scary process to put your faith and trust into something you haven't even seen yet. A lot of people we talked to ...family and friends...said that they had done it the same way and some people found great places, others found bad. We sent one of our friends, Yale (who visited us in Bologna, Italy) to go check out the place we are in now. After his stamp of approval, we felt like it was ok to keep going. We are happy that we are finally here and getting more and more settled as each day goes by.

The humidity isn't as bad as I thought it would be (yeah! No Arkansas!) but the mosquitoes are crazy here!
