Basilica di San Domenico

The Basilica di San Domenico is right around the corner from where we live and I pass it every time I go to the grocery store. From the front it doesn't look very large but if you step inside or walk around the perimeter it's very big!

Tyson loved the choir loft and it's great detail in every wood panel and Taryn helped us test out the acoustics with her funny noises. The main attraction to this Basilica is the great coffin above that holds the remains of Saint Domenic. This coffin was designed by 5 great sculptors, one of which was Michelangleo. As we read the description of this beautiful coffin, I came across a quote that I absolutely loved. "These 5 great artists turned lifeless stone into speakable art." After my study abroad in Italy 2009, I feel like I understand and appreciate art more than before. It's really fun for me to point out certain things to Tyson and explain what they mean and I always enjoy his interpretation of the art or knowledge behind certain times in history that go along with the art or architecture.
